Rugby Weekly Update

Sorry that I have been quiet for the last couple of weekends but I have been travelling including a trip to Twickenham where I was lucky enough to watch England hang on to stuff the Welsh!

On 6 March the U19 1stXV played Football Club U19 1stXV and as expected we lost 41-5, but this is the lowest score they have achieved against us and we scored again. They are by far the strongest team in the league and that we were competitive for large parts of the game, making them fight for their victory, is another sign of our continuing improvement. We will be facing them again on the day of the Taipans games at the club and I am sure it will be even closer or who knows we might even win.

On 13 March the U16s were in the Division 3 final against EK and we won easily 105-0. Below is a photo of our joint captains and the cup. Also the U19 2ndXV were in the Division2 Grand Championship final against Discovery Bay Pirates and we won 19-10. A great victory and as you can see from the picture there were many happy lads. Finally the girls played in another 7s tournament where we lost all three games but as usual were competitive and had fun.

This Sunday (20/3) the U19 1stXV contest the Division 1 Plate final at Happy Valley at 3.45 KO. We are playing Tigers who we have already beaten this season so I am hoping for some more silverware.

Next Wednesday we are off on tour to Bangkok. There are 25 boys going, 3 coaches and a couple of the Breakthrough boys who have now joined the Police are also accompanying us and of course I am going to ensure they all behave themselves!! Our itinerary is:

Wednesday 23 March – Fly to Bangkok and check into the Holiday Inn, Silom

Thursday 24 March - In the morning we go on a boat trip along the Chao Phraya river and canals, visiting a snake farm before returning to the hotel for lunch and a rest. We then have a 5pm match versus Thammpsat University at the Ringsit Campus.

Friday 25 March – We have a day at Dream World, Amusement Park and in the evening we will have a team dinner.

Saturday 26 March –The morning is free for leisure or shopping and we have a game versus Bangkok Bangers at the Patana International School Playing Fields at 1pm. Afterwards there is a pitch side BBQ with the opposition.

Sunday 27 March – Leisurely start to the day and the bus will pick us up at 10.30am to take us to the airport to catch our flight back to HK.

If anyone is in Bangkok and fancies seeing the lads in action contact me for more details.

Many thanks to everyone who has donated money towards the trip. It really is appreciated.
