Annual Dragon Boat season kick started!!





Despite the on-going pandemic, Operation Breakthrough continues to provide sporting and self-development opportunities to Hong Kong’s youth-in-need.


Adhering to social distancing guidelines, Breakthrough has continued to run weekly basketball, running, cricket, football and dragon boating programmes; with all sports delivered by volunteer police officers, both serving and retired, who provide coaching and mentoring to participants.


On 27th March 2021, Operation Breakthrough’s annual dragon boat season kicked off with an opening ceremony officiated by RC Marine (Dave Jordan) and Operation Breakthrough’s Chairman DDC SMPDIST (Glenn O’Neill). Over 30 young people participated in the training, all referred to the programme by the Police Force’s SP Discretion Scheme, by school discipline masters or by local orphanages.


Members of the local community attended the opening ceremony to show their support for the programme, included; Mr. CHEUNG Yan-leung, Operation Breakthrough Dragon Boat Honorable President, (BBS) & (MH); Mr. CHAN Kwan-kwan, (MH), Ex-chairman of Sai Kung District Fight Crime Committee.


Volunteers included retired SP, Mr. LUI Ho-yee, Alan who is a current Breakthrough director, SSGT WONG Ka-shing, SGT 47145, and retired SGT LAU Wai-tong. Two retired FSD officers are also active volunteers, they are Chief Fire Officer TSANG King-yan and Fireman NG Chun-kit. All participants had a great day and look forward to the coming season.
